Located in the heart of Central New Jersey and most commonly associated with the university that shares its name, Princeton is a quaint, tree-lined town that is just a train ride away from both Philadelphia and New York City.

With approximately 30,000 residents, this 18.1 square-mile slice of New Jersey is also home to the headquarters of Bristol-Myers Squibb, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and Dow Jones & Company. The New Jersey governor’s official residence can be found here as well.

Asian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and Latin American cuisines are all represented here, and a seasonal farmers’ market operates close to campus. Palmer Square boasts a unique collection of retail and restaurants right in the heart of downtown, while Witherspoon Grill is known for its bustling bar scene and surf 'n' turf specials.

In terms of entertainment, the McCarter Theatre, which won a Tony Award for the best regional theater in the country, showcases over 200 drama, dance, and music productions a year.

Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is a major part of life in Princeton. At Carnegie Lake, which bounds the south end of campus, residents can jog, canoe, or hike. Griggstown Canoe and Kayak Rentals is a popular spot to traverse the D&R Canal. Terhune Orchards offers pick-your-own activities and other winery-themed events. The Cherry Valley Casino Night is a popular annual attraction, while the Princeton Italian American Festival celebrates Italian American heritage each September.
